Lyric Dissection - Symphony (Clean Bandit & Zara Larsson)

One Nerd. One Laptop. One Infinite Library of Music.
One series taking the piss out of music. Why, what else would you think I'd do?

NOTE - This 'experience' is made better by listening to the original song as you read. Just a helpful hint.

I’ve been hearing symphonies
Before all I heard was silence
I'm surprised you're first reaction isn't 'oh my God, what the hell is that sound?' if that's the first thing you've ever heard.
A rhapsody for you and me
And every melody is timeless
What, they go on forever? That's not timeless, that's just f***ing annoying.
Life was stringing me along
Then you came and you cut me loose
I hope they hadn't kicked away the stool first, that really would have hurt when you dropped to the ground.
Was solo singing on my own
Now I can’t find the key without you
Have you tried looking behind the sofa? I usually find it there.

And now your song is on repeat
And I’m dancin' on, to your heartbeat
Yer, as great as that is, you can't really play that in the club. It's a bit difficult to plug a heart into an AUX cord.
And when you’re gone, I feel incomplete
So if you want the truth
Go on then, tell me. Who did kill JFK?

I just wanna be part of your symphony
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
I hope it's not for forever, I will need to go to the toilet at some point.
Symphony
Like a love song on the radio
Yes. Overplayed, mawkish and a bit sickly.
Will you hold me tight and not let go?

I’m sorry if it’s all too much
Every day you’re here, I’m healing
I know the NHS is in the s*** at the moment, but it can't be that bad.
And I was runnin' outta luck
I never thought I’d find this feeling
Yer, it's surprising what drops out of the sky. I got hit by a piano the other day, you don't hear me singing about it.
'Cause I’ve been hearing symphonies
Before all I heard was silence
Well, I wish I was.
A rhapsody for you and me (A rhapsody for you and me)
And every melody is timeless
By timeless, you do mean never ending, don't you?

And now your song is on repeat
And I’m dancin' on, to your heartbeat
That must be very uncomfortable, especially if it's a Charleston.
And when you’re gone, I feel incomplete
So if you want the truth
Go on then, tell me. Who did kill Osama Bin Laden?

I just wanna be part of your symphony
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
You do realise that we might not be able to fit through doors, don't you? We'll never get in the chip shop again, that's a fact.
Symphony
Like a love song on the radio
Yes. Overplayed, mawkish and a bit sickly. (I know I've used that joke before, but if the music industry can milk love ballads to death, I think I'll be alright recycling a joke.)
Will you hold me tight and not let go?

Ah, ah, ah, ah-ah-ah, ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah, ah-ah-ah, ah, ah, ah
Are you having a stroke? I'm pretty sure that's one of the signs of a stroke.

And now your song is on repeat
And I’m dancin' on, to your heartbeat
For how long? Because, love, it won't be forever. You'll have bored me to death long before then.
And when you’re gone, I feel incomplete
So if you want the truth (oh)
Go on then, tell me. Who did kill 2Pac?

I just wanna be part of your symphony
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
No, frankly. I'd rather go hug a polar bear. At least I'll die quicker.
Symphony
Like a love song on the radio
Is that radio only playing love songs? What are you listening to, s*** FM?
Symphony
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
I'm pretty sure you can get someone, anyone, else to do that. Not me.
Symphony
Like a love song on the radio
I'd get a new radio if I was you, yours clearly isn't working.
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
I should warn you, I've got a grip like a boa constrictor.

Doctor Who - Absent Friends

Starring Paul McGann, Hattie Morahan, Nicola Walker, Jeremy Clyde & Ian Puleston-Davies. Written by John Dorney & Directed by Ken Bentley. Earth. The late 20th century. Across the world, the mobile phone is gaining popularity as more and more people decide to join the digital age. But for the residents of a sleepy English town sitting in the shade of a new transmission mast, that ubiquity has a troubling cost. When the TARDIS veers off-course, the Doctor and his companions find themselves in the middle of a mystery. Sometimes the past comes back to haunt you. And sometimes the future does as well. After eight episodes, the Doom Coalition arc seemed to be going nowhere really, merely laying hints for the future that didn't really seem that interesting or exciting. I hoped that, with this third box set, the questions that the first two sets had built up would begin to be answered. And, while Absent Friends is only one quarter of Doom Coalition 3, if this story is a...

The Diary Of River Song - The Boundless Sea

Starring Alex Kingston & Alexander Vlahos. Written by Jenny T Colgan & Directed by Ken Bentley. River Song has had more than enough excitement for a while. Deciding the universe – and her husband – can look after themselves, she has immersed herself in early 20th century academia, absorbed in writing archaeological theses. But when a mysterious tomb is found in a dry, distant land, excitement comes looking for River. Can Professor Song stop any more members of the expedition from dying? What deadly secrets lie buried within the crypt? And will British Consul Bertie Potts prove to be a help, or a hindrance? River Song, as a character, is one that polarises the fan base. To some, she's an excellent character, who enlivened the early Moffat era with her sass and complex arc. And, to others, she's a bug-bear: an irritant with virtually no personality beyond the few clichés that Moffat had thrown together, and an over-complicated arc with no real structure to it....
